Tips for Cleaning Your Kitchen Cabinets

Now is the perfect time to give homes in Victoria, TX a deep cleaning before holiday guests arrive. Getting that chore out of the way now will free up your time to enjoy showing off your home during the holidays.

One area that likely needs special attention is the kitchen cabinets. In the hustle and bustle of daily life, it’s easy to ignore the grime that gradually builds upon their surfaces. Here are some tips to get your cabinets looking fresh again:

  • Remove grime from cabinet and drawer doors with orange cleaner, dish soap or Murphy’s Oil Soap. If your cabinets are newer, consult the manufacturer’s guidelines. Test a small hidden area first to be sure the cleaning agent won’t harm the finish. Wash cabinets, then wipe with a clean, damp cloth and finish with a dry one. Work quickly to avoid water stains. Remember to clean the knobs or door handles as well.
  • Use glass cleaner or diluted vinegar to clean glass cabinet doors. Don’t spray them, since the cleaner could drip down into the woodwork.
  • Clean cupboard interiors four times a year. Take everything out, vacuum up any crumbs, and wipe down surfaces with a damp, soapy cloth. Wipe dry. While the cabinet dries, sort through the contents. Discard any outdated food. Pack up unwanted utensils, dishes, and equipment for donation. Leave the cabinet doors open for a few hours to dry thoroughly.
  • Once your cabinets are clean, take steps to prevent grime from building up again. Remove any noticeable stains or spills as soon as you see them. If you spill something on the countertop, check the cabinets beneath for drips. Dust cabinet exteriors weekly.
